Marcel Tomášek, MA, Chair of the Board This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Marcel Tomášek is a lecturer in sociology in the School of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno. He also serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Public Policy. Mr. Tomášek was a visiting fellow at the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies (New School University in New York) in the fall of 2000. He received an MA in Sociology from Central European University (Warsaw), and an MA in Politics and History from Palacký University (Olomouc, the Czech Republic). He also studied at Aarhus University (Denmark) and Miami University (Ohio). His research interests touch extensively on the issue of transformation in Central/Eastern Europe (CEE) in regards to European integration (illegal economy, corporate governance and banking sector - forms of state capture in CEE). His research also includes political cleavages, euro-skepticism and ethnic relations in CEE. More recently, his interests have involved the theme of marital behavior and single-hood in CEE societies. In November 2004, Egle Havrdová defended her PhD. thesis in the Department of Social Policy, Institute for Sociological Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. Her dissertation research focused on the comparison of social intervention strategies in the Czech Republic and Lithuania. This study was a continuation of her research on youth crime prevention programs in Lithuania, which she carried out during her MA studies in the Department of Sociology, University of Lancaster in 1997-1998. Egle presented the results of her doctoral study at a number of scientific conferences and seminars (Sociological Society of G.Masaryk, BASEES Cambridge, UK, Havighurst Foundation Conference, Miami University, USA, UNESCO Conference, Sofia, Bulgaria, and Marie Curie FP6 Annual Conference, Piza, Italy). From 2004 to 2005, she was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Department of Criminology, Keele University, UK. Her research interests include youth crime control policy design and implementation, evaluation, and dialogue between academics and practitioners in the field. In addition to her academic work, Egle has explicit experience in program management (Fund for American Studies, Washington, USA). In 2002, she served as NCP, Senior Specialist for Knowledge Society and Mobility, European Commission FP6 in Lithuania.
Pavel Hrbek;, Assistant, International Programs: European Spring/Summer Institute 2008/Summer School on Crime, Law and Psychology,2008/ Summer School on Cultural Dimensions of Politics in Europe 2008 Pavel Hrbek studies the fourth year at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague. He spent an academic year 2006/2007 in Spain in Vigo at Universidade de Vigo as an Erasmus student. In July 2006, he participated at The American Institute on Political and Economic Systems (AIPES) summer school, organized by The Fund for American Studies (TFAS). He was hired by TFAS as a program assistant for the next AIPES 2007. In September 2005, he was as an assistant with light duty in Doreen Evans Associates, Inc., MA, USA. Pavel is interested in political economics.
Hana Pexová, Assistant, International Programs: European Spring/Summer Institute 2008/Summer School on Crime, Law and Psychology,2008/ Summer School on Cultural Dimensions of Politics in Europe 2008 Hana Pexová is a Masters student at the Department of Public Administration and Regional Development, Faculty of Economics and Management, University of Agriculture in Prague. Her bachelors work was focused on the theory of totalitarian regimes and transformation of the countryside in Czechoslovakia during 1950's and she had an opportunity to present this topic during the students panel at the Conference on the Collectivisation of Countryside in Czechoslovakia held in Prague, September 2007. Next to her cooperation with the CPVP she has a part-time job in Opavia-LU company in the Department of Quality where she is responsible for the administrative support and Czech-English translations. In the past she participated in two short-term study programs in Great Britain and also worked as an lector of elementary English at the children summer camp (2004). She is interested in local and world socio-political and cultural events, especially in cultural-historical identities of English-speaking countries. Her personal hobbies include visiting cultural events, reading books, travelling and gastronomy.
